My Personal Journey with IFS
I first learned about IFS in 2022, while working with a new therapist. Although I had heard about Internal Family Systems, I did not know what it was about. In fact I didn’t have any idea what I was getting into when I first started.
But something about IFS clicked for me, after the first couple sessions, as I went through it with my therapist. I don’t remember how it was introduced to me exactly, but I do remember having a moment where I got it, and I felt filled with self-compassion and self-validation. Since that kind of self-love is something I have always struggled with, it was meaningful for me how deeply I felt it.
I dove in to IFS right away after that moment of self understanding and self love. I got books, I read articles, watched videos about it, along with continuing therapy and doing the exercises each week that my therapist suggested.
It took some time for real transformation to occur, and it is still an ongoing journey. But there has been so much healing and transformation in me that I soon became an advocate for IFS, especially as a parent coach where I help parents overcome their own struggles and challenges.
As of October 2024, I have worked through deep issues that have been a source of struggle for me for many years, including but not limited to: depression, anxiety, procrastination, shame and feelings of worthlessness.
I can attest to the power of Internal Family Systems and the deep healing and transformation that has been occurring within myself, and that makes me want to share about it with others.
